The Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) was established with the primary objective of generating and promoting new, appropriate, and efficient technologies to advance the food, agriculture, and agro-based industries.
Formed under the MARDI Act 1969, the Institute was officially established on 28 October 1969 and commenced full operations in 1971.
MARDI is governed and guided by policies and regulations set by the MARDI Governing Board, with the approval of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security. For financial matters, the approval of the Minister of Finance is also required.
The MARDI Science Council plays a vital role in ensuring that MARDI’s technical programmes consistently achieve the highest standards of quality and effectiveness.
Over the years, MARDI’s leadership vision has evolved from building research capacity and establishing planting and farming systems, to driving technology commercialization, total quality management, and a culture of excellence, ultimately earning recognition both nationally and internationally.
